Candle Care & Safety Information
Practical tips and sacred wisdom to help your candles shine their brightest
✦ Proper care of your candle is essential for both safety and longevity. ✦
Well-maintained candles burn more evenly with less sooting and tunneling ~
giving you a beautiful burn that lasts longer.
General Candle Safety
- Always burn within sight ~ never leave a candle unattended.
- Keep away from drafts, fans, curtains, pets, and children.
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Do not move a burning candle or touch hot wax.
- Stop burning at ~½" wax remaining (containers) or ~1" (pillars).
First Burn: Set the Memory
- Let a full melt pool form edge-to-edge on the first burn (about 2–4 hours depending on size).
- This prevents tunneling and promotes an even, longer-lasting burn.
Wick Care
Cotton Wicks
- Trim to ~¼" before each burn.
- If flame flickers, smokes, or grows too tall ~ extinguish, trim, and relight.
Bamboo Wood Wicks
- Trim to ~⅛" before lighting; hold flame a little longer to catch.
- If the flame is weak, gently remove loose char and relight.
Burn Times
- Limit burns to ~4 hours at a time.
- Allow the candle to cool and re-trim before relighting.
Pillar Candles
- Place on a proper holder or heat-safe plate to catch drips.
- Maintain a ~¼" wax wall for support; if it builds unevenly, carefully level the edge.
Container Candles
- Keep the wax free of matches, trimmings, and debris.
- Do not burn if the container is cracked or chipped.
- Containers get hot—let them cool before handling.
Extinguishing
- Use a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melt pool and straighten to reduce smoke.
- Avoid blowing out to minimize soot and embers.
Energetic Care (Optional, but we love it ✨)
- Before lighting, set an intention or whisper a blessing into the flame.
- Place your candle in a cleansed, meaningful space.
- When extinguishing, thank the flame and release the work with gratitude.
